Project Porchlight is coming to Puget Sound!
Project Porchlight is about to launch our first ever campaign in Puget Sound, Washington! In partnership with Puget Sound Energy (PSE), volunteers will deliver 275,000 free ENERGY STAR-qualified CFL bulbs in PSE’s residential electric service area this summer. Be a light in your community and volunteer to help out today! Visit Project Porchlight to sign up.

We also encourage Puget Sound residents to participate in PSE’s Rock the Bulb campaign! Attend one of 16 weekend bulb exchange events held at select local retail stores this summer to trade up to 10 incandescent bulbs for CFL bulbs of your choosing. Sign up for PSE’s Be an Energy Rock Star Contest for your chance to win up to $45,000 worth of prizes. For more information, visit Project Porchlight Puget Sound.

One Change – a.k.a. 2009 ENERGY STAR Advocate of the Year!

One Change just keeps on shining... in May, we were awarded the 2009 ENERGY STAR Advocate of the Year award by Natural Resources Canada! This year’s award marks the second time our organization has been honoured by ENERGY STAR in Canada - in 2006, One Change was named ENERGY STAR Recruit of the Year.

Since then, Project Porchlight has distributed more than 2 million ENERGY STAR-qualified CFL bulbs across Canada and the U.S., helping residents reduce their energy use by 1 billion kilowatt hours, save more than $86 million, and stop 630,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions from being released into the air.

But we’d just be another star in the sky without the hard work and support from our fantastic volunteers, staff, and sponsors. So thanks to everyone who has participated in our campaigns and helped us grow!
Volunteer with One Change!
One Change is always looking for new and amazing volunteers!

Whether you live in areas where upcoming or ongoing campaigns are taking place (in Ottawa, New Jersey, and Puget Sound), or whether you’d just like to bring One Change campaigns to your community, we’d love to have you sign up. Our dream is to bring our campaigns to all parts of Canada and the U.S.—and your interest and support can help make it happen!

Visit our web site to find out more and sign up to volunteer today.

A Shining Star in Scenic Acres - Janice Park Wong
Project Porchlight’s Alberta campaign officially wrapped up in March of this year, but we still had one Calgary community left to visit. When Scenic Acres resident Janice Park Wong learned there were a few thousand CFL bulbs available to be distributed in her community, she rounded up an impressive 53 volunteers to commit their May long weekend to delivering the bulbs. A star performer, Janice deserves to be honoured as our volunteer of the month.

Psst! Simple actions matter...
One Change is getting pumped to launch our new fuel efficiency campaign in Ottawa this summer! Maintaining proper tire pressure makes your vehicle more fuel-efficient, which saves you money and reduces greenhouse gas emissions, while preventing car accidents—it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

Join us as we hand out more than 13,000 free digital tire gauges door-to-door, at 'tire clinics' at local Canadian Tire stores, and at community events across the city.

Volunteer today or watch the One Change web site in the coming weeks for more information!

Simple Action of the Month: 'Green' your BBQ
Summer is upon us. To many folks, that means it’s BBQ season. We all love the delicious taste of food cooked over the fire, but what about the environmental and health impacts?

No matter what type of BBQ you use, they all release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere—a greenhouse gas. Americans alone emit 225,000 tons grilling each summer, equivalent to cutting down 2,300 acres of forest.

Minimize those emissions by using a propane, gas, or electric grill, which emit less than using charcoal or wood. If you do use charcoal, be sure to choose an eco-friendly natural lump brand that doesn’t contain unhealthy additives like lighter fluid.

When it comes time to serving your grilled delicacies, use reusable dishes, glasses, and silverware. Cloth napkins add a nice touch, too. You’ll keep more change in your pocket and less trash in the landfill.

Visit our web site for more ‘green’ BBQ tips and to learn about other Simple Actions that Matter.
