ONE CHANGE ENEWS :: MAY 2009
One million bulbs in New Jersey!
Project Porchlight New Jersey is growing! Thanks to support from the New Jersey BPU and New Jersey’s Clean Energy Program, we’re expanding our campaign to deliver one million ENERGY STAR-qualified CFL bulbs across the state in 2009. But we need your help to make it happen.

You don’t need to be an expert on environmental issues to volunteer for Project Porchlight. All that’s required is a morning or an afternoon, a little enthusiasm, and an interest in helping to protect the environment.

Call 1-888-767-2458 or e-mail volunteer@porchlight.org to get involved! Visit our web site to find out more.

Psst...
Spread the word - One Change is launching a brand new fuel efficiency campaign! We’ll be handing out 12,000 free tire gauges across the city of Ottawa this summer, to help residents save money, be fuel-efficient, and reduce air pollution.

Did you know that if everyone in Canada kept their tires properly inflated, residents would save $1 billion on gas, cut 2.8 million tonnes of air pollution, and stop thousands of needless traffic accidents? It’s a win-win-win situation.

Volunteer or apply for a position today. More details to follow next month.

One Change and UNEP Celebrate Catalysts across North America
One Change has come a long way. Four years ago, we were a small group of friends with an idea. Today, we’re an award-winning not-for-profit organization that has empowered millions of people across North America to believe that simple actions matter.

On April 15, 2009, we celebrated these people at our very first Catalyst Awards. The event also highlighted our new and unique North America-wide partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Read more about the event and keep your eyes peeled for a video clip on our YouTube web page.

Michael Martorelli - East Hanover, New Jersey
In East Hanover, New Jersey, Environmental Commissioner Michael Martorelli keeps busy with Project Porchlight. Michael has been a standout volunteer with Project Porchlight and a true leader in East Hanover. Recruiting loads of volunteers, taking part in several bulb distributions, and organizing many successful events have earned Michael Martorelli the honor of the Volunteer of the Month.

On behalf of the One Change Team, thank you Michael!
One Change Energy Stars!
According to ENERGY STAR, One Change’s flagship campaign, Project Porchlight, is a bona fide energy star. On April 22, Earth Day 2009, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR program honoured pledge drivers who have made a real impact - and Project Porchlight will be honored in fourth place among the top five nationally ranked non-profit organizations!

And we couldn’t have done it without the support of our amazing volunteers, staff and sponsors. Read more about our brand new ‘star’ status!

Spring is in the air
Did you know that your clothes dryer is the second biggest electricity-using appliance in your home (after the refrigerator)?

Now that spring is here, why not hang up your laundry to dry on a clothesline or a drying rack? This simple action will cut greenhouse gas emissions and save you as much as $100 on your electricity bill each year. If you use a coin-operated machine, save your quarters - in these tough economic times, every little bit helps. The best part: it won’t cost you a dime and your clothes will smell fresher than ever!

Visit our web site to learn about other Simple Actions that Matter.
